We, the undersigned, call on you to increase the pensioners’ grant to R5000 as a start towards equalising it to the National Minimum Wage. We also call on you to give all pensioners a 13th cheque in December to help them absorb some of the pressures of extra expenses during the December holidays and in January, so families can be in a better position for the new school year.
We join the call with civil society organisations advocating that budgets are a political tool and that prioritising revenue is required to address our most urgent political problems. The government should tax the super-rich fairly so it can provide adequate grants to Mzansi pensioners.
